Thanks to invitations to show my work abroad, to which I have anwered every time by drawing the maps of my hosts’ countries, I have begun a series that tends towards an atlas of Europe. .It’s a work in progress…On the map of each country appears a list of its most important citizens. This list is taken from the Wikipedia Encyclopaedia, that is built on much the same principle as my own work since it challenges hierarchic points of view. Wikipedia conveys information in a manner that differs from the way it is given in books.
Everyone can contribute to Wikipedia, the information will just be eliminated if it is discovered to be false .In normal channels of information, it isn’t enough for knowledge to be true it also has to further the interests of small groups of people. Therefore my maps are accompanied by lists of the names of people who are really important, not just famous.
